World Breastfeeding Week

World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated across the globe every year from 1 to 7 August. This celebration commemorates the Innocenti Declaration singed in August 1990 on the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding.

World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) first observed this week in 1992, from then it became a global celebration supported by WHO, UNESCO and their partners. Now, it is celebrated in more than 120 countries across the globe.

This year’s theme is “Empower parents, Enable breastfeeding“. The objective is to aware parents about the importance of breastfeeding particularly during the first six months of pregnancy.
